Gentle Giants Expedition
The Mexican Peninsula of Baja California is one of the richest marine habitats in the world, providing refuge for a variety of marine mammals. Every winter thousands of whales migrate along the coast and travel down to warmer waters to breed, feed, and mate. In this season, we have a short period (Feb-March) where the humpback whales, grey whales and blue whales overlap allowing us to run unique expeditions and enjoy the presence of all three species. This is an expedition for everyone, whether you’re a diver or non-diver. You’ll be able to see whales in their own habitat, learn about them and their explore beautiful water world and experience all of the majesty of these amazing creatures up close!

This expedition is not a scuba diving trip. A scuba or freediving certification is not required to join these expeditions. You only need to know how to swim for the snorkeling portions of the trip. It’s a great way to make the most of your time and experience during the expedition!
Planning Your Visit

Baja California has an arid, sunny climate year-round with hardly any rain. In fact, most of the rain we see falls in September and the rest of the year is extremely hot and dry. During whale watching season in March, temperatures are typically in the 26°C/78°F range during the day, and can fall to as low as 10°C/50°F at night. Pack a light jacket or sweatshirt to be prepared for both warm days & cool nights.

Our expeditions starts and ends at our Dive Ninja headquarters located in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. The closest airport is San Jose del Cabo International Airport (SJD). Another option is to fly into La Paz International Airport (LAP) and take a bus or shuttle to Cabo. Both airports are served by domestic and international flights on a daily basis. Incase of any travel delays, we suggest arriving a day early as well as to get yourself settled in ahead of time.
Flights from the US are rather affordable especially coming from the west coast. Flights from Europe are reasonably priced and typically include a stopover in the US or Mexico City. If transiting through the US or any other countries, make sure ahead of time you have the appropriate transit VISA.

While you’re in town, why not explore other things to do before and after the expedition? We at Dive Ninjas have numerous options for local diving and activities in Los Cabos and the surrounding areas. From ocean safaris and pelagic encounters along the Sea of Cortez, to swimming with whale sharks and sea lions in La Paz, to scuba diving and freediving courses, there’s a lot more that Baja has to offer. Send us a message and we’d love to help arrange an add-on package with the best deals for your visit!
